Basil Pesto Recipe

Basic Basil Pesto: – ½ cup toasted pine nuts – 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice – 1 small garlic clove – ¼ teaspoon sea salt – freshly ground black pepper – 2 cups basil leaves – ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for a smoother pesto – ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, optional


Put the pine nuts, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a food processor.

Pulse the machine a few times to make small pieces.

Pulse in the basil until it's all mixed in.

Pour the olive oil into the food processor while it's going and pulse a few times to mix it in.

If you're using it, add the Parmesan cheese and pulse just a few times to mix it in.

Add more olive oil to make the pesto smoother.
